Antique English Silver Plate Biscuit Box C.1880

Description

A wonderfully handsome Victorian biscuit or cookie box dating to around 1880. The box stands on an integral pierced stand which in turn stands on three original ball & claw feet.

The body is beautifully engine turned to create a basket weave finish, most unusual and highly decorative, this is followed through onto the domed lid. The front has a shaped vacant cartouche which could be engraved by your silversmith should you wish to personalize. The top of the lid also has a circular cartouche.

The lid fits perfectly, the hinge is in perfect working order, a stunning example in excellent condition. The integral tray has a diameter measuring 8" and the box stands 7" tall.
