Digby Antiques (Wiltshire) has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
It is in remarkably good order considering its age and its construction.
The original hinges are in place as are the two fastening hooks on the front.

The slightly domed lid lifts to reveal 4 small counter boxes each individually decorated with 4 scenes. The inside lid still has the original silk lining which is still a lovely colour. The silk lining to the inside base of the box is also original and in good order. Gold braid trim adds to the decoration. The ribbon on the side is a much later addition and could be removed.

Two of the counter boxes are in very good order for their age, two others have issues with the lids and hinges please see picture.
Not sure what the scenes on the main box and smaller boxes depict.
A great survivor.
