Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Postal scales became essential household and office accessories in Great Britain following the introduction of the Uniform Penny Post in 1840, which calculated charges by weight rather than distance. Late Victorian models frequently incorporated engraved postal rate charts directly onto the pans to reflect changing inland letter rates.

Victorian postal scales were primarily constructed from solid brass, mounted on heavy cast iron or wooden bases such as mahogany or walnut. The accompanying nesting weights were precision-cast from solid brass in dram and ounce increments.

Authentic pieces typically display stamped weight markings on both the pans and weights, alongside stamped postal rates relevant to the era. Look for natural surface oxidisation, hand-turned brass components, and period-specific maker or registration marks.

These decorative metalwork pieces function as focal objects when placed on an executive office desk, library bookshelf, or side table. Pair them with antique leather-bound books, brass desk lamps, or framed botanical prints to enhance a traditional study aesthetic.

Remove surface dust regularly using a soft microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Avoid abrasive chemical polishes or dipping solutions, as retaining the original aged patina and tarnish protects the metal surface and maintains historical authenticity.
