A very rare and unusual antique solid sterling silver master salt cellar. It is hallmarked SILVER along with the makers mark B&L. I suspect by its style that it is north American 19th century, possibly early 19th century? It has been superbly designed being in the form of a rocking crib or cot. The leaf applied to each end looks to be that of a swamp white oak which would also suggest north American - possibly the New England area? It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs, faint signs of gilding inside. It measures approx. 3.5 inches (8.8cm) long by 2.5 inches (6.4cm) wide by 2 inches 5.1cm) tall and it weighs 96 grams. A very unusual piece.
Weights and measurements are approximate.
