This is a really good example of a Kaskuli Kashgai carpet dating from around 1900. Kashkuli carpets were usually woven in finer wool, around the turn of the century or earlier and the quality is reflected in the design and the tightness of the weave. This carpet has a wonderful central lozenge which echoes toward the ends of the carpet. The field itself is filled with finely worked geometric motifs and also stylised floral motifs. The colour palette is particularly pleasing with chestnut brown, rich indigo, gold, ivory, dark indigo and coral all featuring in the design. A very attractive carpet, this is in excellent condition for its age with just a little wear to the ends. Unusual in size it measures 324 cms by 122 cms. This would make a fine wall hanging but looks stunning on the floor.
