Antique Silver Novelty Powder-flask Butt Marker

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

Well this is a rarity! An antique solid sterling silver butt or peg marker modelled as a powder flask.

It is clearly hallmarked on the neck for Chester 1912, with the maker''s mark of Grey & Co. The powder flask-shaped body has a suspension loop attached to the base. The ingenious spring-loaded mechanism in the neck releases one ball at a time, which is presumably why the suspension loop is on the bottom rather than closer to the neck. The flask has then to be reverted before releasing another ball. Sadly, there are only three balls, numbered 1,6 and 8 - shame! It is priced accordingly. There are a few small dents to the body, which is, unusually, unengraved.
