Antique Victorian Silver 10-peg Butt Marker

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

This Victorian solid sterling silver butt or peg marker is in an excellent condition.

It is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1894 with the maker''s mark of George Unite. It is a plain rectangle opened via a sprung hinged cover which has a suspension loop. It opens to reveal ten numbered pegs (not marked). The clever design of the peg slots ensure that they don''t (all) fall out when it is opened - invariably, some do! It is unusually free from any engravings. The sides show some slight surface abrasions, but nothing that one wouldn''t expect from an item of this age.
