Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A close stool, also known as a commode stool, was an 18th-century piece of furniture constructed to house a chamber pot. They were frequently disguised as small chests of drawers or bedside cabinets to seamlessly integrate into bedrooms and dressing rooms of the period.

Georgian close stools were predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and mahogany. Brass hardware, including drop handles and escutcheons, was typically installed on the exterior facade.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, oak drawer linings or interior framing, period-correct brass hardware, and genuine wear or oxidisation around the base and handles. Many feature a hinged lid or false drawer fronts concealing the interior chamber.

In modern interior design, these compact pieces function effectively as distinctive bedside tables, side tables beside a sofa, or accent storage cabinets in hallways and reading nooks.

Antique oak should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth and nourished twice yearly with a high-quality beeswax polish. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent wood shrinkage or splitting.
