Fine George III London Bracket Clock With Calendar Circa 1785

£5,900    $7,561    €7,127
• By Thomas Wilmore who was possibly related to Chas Wilmore a London clock maker who became a prestigious Clock maker in Denmark in the first half of the 18th Century.

• The beautifully executed mahogany case has pineapple finials on an elegant bell top, brass trailing floral caryatides to the front angles, and glazed sides with brass handles. All the brass fittings are crisply executed and top quality. The dial is signed Thomas Willmore, London on a silvered sector within a matted ring. The narrow silver roman and Arabic chapter ring with a relatively rare calendar ring. There is a strike/silent ring between foliate spandrels and elaborately blued steel hands with an arrow head calendar hand.

• It has a lovely original movement with no historic modifications / improvements. The five-pillar twin fusee movement has its original verge escapement, strikes the hours on a bell, with a pull repeat and strike/silent function.

• The backplate, pendulum and securing brackets are crisply engraved with fruit and vine decoration.

• The fine clock case and serviced movement come in superlative condition with a 12 month warranty (uk only).

Shipping

Other than a few smaller items that can be safely posted, nearly all items are hand delivered (and set up in the case of clocks) by Martin Bros who are one of Britain’s most prestigious carriers of antiques and fine art. I wish us avoid the hassle of cheap men and their vans! The standard (subsidised) delivery price shown is for mainland UK excluding Scotland. Please ask for a Quotation where the standard price is not applicable.

Restoration and Presented Condition

I do not subscribe to the shabby chic or make it like new approach using modern materials which can make future restoration extremely difficult and impede long-term investment value.
