Royal Worcester began producing hand-painted fruit study porcelain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, establishing a tradition of master artists signing their individual works. These items were highly prized for their botanical accuracy and complex still-life compositions set against soft, blended backgrounds.

These pieces were crafted from fine bone china, glazed, and painted by hand using ceramic enamels applied in multiple layers. Each layer required separate firing to build depth of colour, finished with hand-applied burnished gilding along the borders.
