This is a beautiful example of a French mantle clock made in the Victorian time for the English market.
The case is fine carved retaining the original patina as well as the crown. Walnut is a hard wood particulary difficult to carve but the advantage is the tight grain that allows the skilled artist to obtain fine details.
The dial is made of hand painted porcelain on a white base and blue details.
The movement is traditional, manufactured in France but imported to England where the case was made.
The clock is striking every hour and half hour.
