Excellent Set of Eight George I Design Oak Dining Chairs C. 1900

1900 - 1920
Description

A beautiful set of chairs in solid oak, heavy and very solid and robust without weakness in the joints or repairs. These date from c. 1900 but were made in the style of a set of chairs of 1720 with long cabriole legs, shapely curved back splats and lovely hand carved scrolls to the serpentine shaped top rails.

.

These chairs could easily pass as a set of George I chairs.

.

Each has a drop in seat which is covered in a thick jade green upholstery fabric in good condition without tears or significant marks or wear. The pads could very easily and inexpensively be re-upholstered in a fabric of your choice but the existing upholstery is of a good quality and has many years of use and life still left in it.

.

There are small losses, dings, marks and scuffs consistent with age and careful use.

The oak frames have a lovely rich and consistent colour throughout and are of a very high quality. The chairs are extremely comfortable - the backs have a gentle rake that is supportive. The seats are well padded and the chairs have a good width and depth and are of attractive proportions.

.

A really excellent set of late Victorian solid and robust oak chairs, beautifully made and extremely beautiful and faithful copies of an early 18th century set of chairs - good enough to fool an expert.

.

.

Dimensions are:

.

21 inches wide (max), 20.5 inches deep (max) and 39 inches high.

.

Floor to seat is 19 inches.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
