Pair of Bohemian Lithyalin Glass Vases Probably by Freidrich Egermann Workshop

19th century
Description

A rare pair of Bohemian Lithyalin glass goblet shaped vases, probably by Friedrich Egermann of Haida, circa 1830-40, in sealing wax red, the vase shaped bowl cut with two rows of facets over long tapering slice-cut panels, raised on a double knopped stem and circular foot with polished pontil.

The term Lithyalin is derived from the Greek 'lithos' meaning stone, This type of glass was developed in Bohemia by Friedrich Egermann (1777-1864), it has an opaque, marbled, surface resembling semi-precious stones.

These are completely hand made and consquently display minor differences. One bowl has a crystaline type inclusion on one of the facets (see photo) but both are in exceptionally fine conditiion and display perfect footrim wear commensurate with age.

15.4cm high, one vase 7.5cm diam at the base, the othr 7.2cm.
