Rare Grimes Patent Railway Reading Lamp Dated 1855

Description

A very rare Grimes' Patent Railway Reading Lamp. This ingenious portable railway compartment lamp would have been carried by a railway traveller. It is contained in a leather case and the metal lantern unfolds and a brass spring-loaded candleholder screws into the body, the rear of the lantern has two sharp suspension hooks. The case of the lantern is pressed with an RD kite mark for 1855.
