Antique Burr Walnut Writing Desk By Howard & Sons

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Marylebone Antiques

A magnificent and very rare antique burr walnut writing desk by Howard & Sons. This desk is of the highest quality. It was made in England by Howard and Sons, it dates from the 1860-1880 period.

This was likely a one off commissioned piece, it is extremely well made and has some lovely features. The base is solid walnut and is beautifully turned to give a bamboo effect. There are also bamboo shaped mouldings around the top edges, and a pierced brass gallery on the top edge. The top surface, middle surface and drawer fronts are burr walnut & have satinwood cross banded edges, this has a faded black leather inset writing surface. The back is also nicely finished, so this can be used as a free standing item.

The Howard and Sons logo can be seen imprinted in the drawer edge. The condition is excellent for its age, we have just had it fully re-polished.
