Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-twentieth century, long gold chains and sautoir-style necklaces experienced a resurgence in popularity. Crafted primarily in 9ct and 18ct gold, these chains incorporated geometric, openwork, or textured links that reflected the evolving design aesthetic of the 1950s and 1960s.

Gold chains from this period were commonly constructed from 9ct yellow gold using hollow or pierced filigree links connected by trace or belcher chain segments. This construction allowed for substantial visual presence while remaining lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Authentic British gold chains from the mid-twentieth century typically feature hallmark stamps indicating the purity, such as 375 or 9CT, along with sponsor marks and assay office marks on the end loops or clasp.

When not being worn, fine jewellery pieces like long gold chains can be displayed inside glass-topped jewellery frames, hung on brass accessory stands, or laid over decorative marble trinket trays on a dressing table.

Clean 9ct gold jewellery using warm water, mild detergent, and a soft-bristled brush to remove surface residue. Rinse thoroughly, dry with a soft lint-free cloth, and store laid flat or wrapped individually to prevent tangling.
