Description
We are delighted to offer this fabulous antique Victorian 18ct gold bow & heart-shaped pendant necklace made c.1880.
This pendant features the most wonderful combination of emerald and Victorian goldsmithing: six emeralds with beautiful well-matched colours are mounted in 18ct+ gold with the top portion featuring an elegant bow shape and a heart locket that suspends freely below.
In addition to the wonderful overall shape and design, the intricacy of the hand-engraved acanthus leaf scroll that profusely decorates the front surface of the gold is absolutely delightful and a testament to the fine Victorian craftsmanship.
To imagine that each area has been finished by hand with such a degree of finesse despite a relatively small surface area to work with is very impressive.
The heart 'drop' itself has an endearing three three-dimensional 'puffy' design with a circular locket on the reverse side. The freely of moving parts of this pendant truly come to life upon wearing. Under natural lighting, the different angles and intricacies of both the pendant and the emeralds glisten and have an alluring aesthetic.
A sweet and charming piece of fine Victorian jewellery, ideal as a wonderful gift to a loved one or as an indulgent present to yourself. A splendid and distinguished piece of antique not only great for collection but to be practically worn even today and bound to be a conversation starter.
Emerald is known to be the birthstone for May.
The pendant is unmarked as is common with such articles of the Victorian period and as such we have fully tested for 18ct+gold (tests indicate possibly a higher content than 18ct but we have listed as such to be on the safe side).
Ready to wear out of the box: All of our pendants also include a complimentary 9ct solid gold (modern) chain so that you can enjoy your newly acquired treasure straight out of the box.
All of our jewellery comes with a complimentary hard shell gift box with a velvet interior.
Condition: Good antique condition with no major issues/damage. Upon close inspection as shown in the macro photography, some emeralds have some minor chips on the edges/facets. Please note that this is very small in actuality and not nearly as apparent with the naked eye.
We aim to overemphasize and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect the usage of the items.
Please refer to the photos for further details.
