Description
Antique Rosewood Single Chain Fusee Mantel Clock By Fisher Old Bond Street Bath. This lovely antique mantel clock has a rosewood case with a beautiful colour and grain. The top of the case is then shaped with turner disks to the front of each round section. The body of the case is then square with lovely turned columns to each front edge as well as the sides and back having glass panels so that the movement can be fully viewed. There is then a moulding to the base which is finished by four small round wooden feet. The dial is then both arched and silvered. It is set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring of dashes to the outside marking the minutes. The bottom of the dial is then intricately engraved with a scrolling pattern as well as a fruit bowl to the centre. The dial is then signed above the fruit bowl by the maker “Fisher Old Bond St BATH”. Finally the dial is finished by two shaped hands as well as a protective glass set into the door. The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is ticking away as it should and comes complete with its regulating pendulum, winding key, and travel nut. The movement is then a chain fusee example of the upmost quality. “Edwin Fisher is first recorded working in Bath in 1819; he is recorded as a watchmaker and a jeweller working at 13 Somerset buildings and subsequently relocating to 14 New Bond Street as noted in an 1833 directory. Nine years later Fisher moved again, this time to 13 Abbey Churchyard, and finally to his final location at 9 Old Bond Street in 1846. He stopped advertising in Bath in 1866, suggesting this is his retirement date.” It measures approximately: - 16” / 40.5cm Tall. - 11.5” / 29.25cm Wide. - 6.25” / 16cm Deep.
