Exceptional quality large-scale C19th French ‘Japanese Imari pattern’ porcelain vase and cover by Samson of Paris .
Beautifully decorated tapering ovoid body vase surmounted by a domed lid cover surmounted by a guardian lion-dog , or komainu , finial. Traditional Imari palette colours and decoration in the late C17th / early C18th Genroku period taste , with striking colbalt and pale blues , iron reds and gilded highlights. The painted decoration featuring vignettes of exotic mythical birds, chrysanthemums and floral motifs.
The firm of Edme Samson et Cie , Paris , France, founded in 1845 , were renowned C19th producers of quality copies of rare and fine European and Oriental style porcelain vases and china ware .
In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs.
