Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Stipple engraving is a printmaking technique using small dots to create subtle tonal gradations, popular in the late 18th century. Printing or mounting these engravings onto silk created soft, textured decorative pictures designed for refined Georgian interiors.

These pieces combine copperplate-printed ink on woven silk or paper mounted to silk backing. They were traditionally set inside wood or gesso frames with gilt finishes and protected behind glass.

Authentic Georgian pieces feature fine dot patterns from copperplate etching, subtle surface oxidisation, and natural darkening of the textile or paper, complemented by period-correct timber framing and hand-gilded accents.

Position the artwork within a gallery wall alongside contemporary pieces for visual contrast, or hang it directly above a console table, desk, or mantelpiece to serve as a classic focal point.

Keep the print away from direct sunlight, dampness, and fluctuating temperatures to prevent fabric decay and fading. Reframing with UV-filtering glass helps protect delicate silk fibers over time.
