ANTIQUE #SA1027192

Rare Fine Louis XV Childs Chair Circa 1765-70

£1,850    $2,500    €2,129
• This was due to have been purchased by Frances Shand Kydd (Princess Diana’s mother) in the late 90’s who collected antique children’s chairs. Unfortunately, during its long period of restoration her health deteriorated and the deal never took place.

• Had been sent away for a complete museum quality restoration including re-gilding and recovering in a superb expensive silk brocade material that had been ordered for the restoration of furniture at one of the London’s Royal Residences.

• Has the original under chair webbing with the beech frame in structurally superb original condition.

• This most probably came to the UK in the mid 1790’s when following Louis’s death, the Revolutionary Council sold off most of the contents of Royal Palaces and Aristocratic Chateaus in auctions and private sales. During 1793 17,000 items were sold from Versailles alone, with a massive quantity ending up in the UK (to the extent that the UK now has more fine Louis furniture than the France!)...
