Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch commodes from the 18th century often feature shaped or serpentine fronts, heavy brass fitments, and sturdy bracket feet. Influenced by French Rococo design, these pieces frequently incorporated painted finishes or fine veneers topped with thick, shaped marble slabs.

These commodes were typically constructed with oak or pine carcases, topped with imported polished marble. Surface finishes were achieved using milk-based or oil-based paints, complemented by cast gilt-brass escutcheons and drop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and irregular hand-forged nails. Look for natural paint wear on contact areas, subtle craquelure, and oxidisation on the brass hardware.

Place the commode in a hallway, dining room, or bedroom to serve as a focal anchor. Contrast the aged painted patina against neutral walls and balance the heavy form with contemporary art or minimalist lighting.

Dust the painted body with a dry, soft microfibre cloth without using chemical sprays that can degrade historic paint layers. Clean the marble top using a damp cloth with a pH-neutral stone cleaner, ensuring spills are wiped immediately to prevent staining.
