1930s Silver Vertex Half Hunter Pocket Watch for Mappin

1930s silver half hunter pocket watch for Mappin.

The watch has a good quality 17-jewel stem-winding movement by Vertex which is working nicely. The movement has a cam disc regulator, a Breguet hairspring and screw set jewels.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has the inscription, ‘Presented by The Gas Light & Coke Company to Mr N Meakes in recognition of 42½ years service, March 1939’.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1937 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham case maker Aaron Dennison. The case is in lovely condition. Small central lens to the front surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

The glass lens is in lovely condition (some white reflection showing in the photos).

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Mappin. It is in lovely condition with blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
