The chair has two hexagonal shaped tapering legs to the front terminating to carved tulip design. The broad chair seat has been reupholstered in black leather and finished with brass studs.

Born in 1769 in Amsterdam from Scottish heritage, Thomas Hope was an influential designer and collector who helped define the style of the Regency era. He was born in to a very wealthy family and inherited their art and furniture collection from a young age. At the age of eighteen Thomas travelled through Europe and Egypt and was influenced by Roman, Grecian and Egyptian design which were incorporated in to his interiors and furniture designs.
