N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The body of the case is then square with turned columns to the front corners and inlaid sections both above and below the dial. The sides of the case then have lovely shaped fretwork panels which are also doors so that the movement can be fully accessed. There is then a further large moulding around the base which leads to the four turned feet.
The dial is then silvered and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring marking the minutes. The corners of the dial then have lovely engraved patterns as well as there being a patterned ring framing the numerals. The dial is then finished by two lovely shaped hands as well as a bevelled glass set into the door.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. It is a double, chain fusee example of the upmost quality and comes complete with its regulating pendulum and winding key. The clock ticks away as it should and chimes one “ting tang” on the quarter past, two on the half past, three on the quarter to, and the number of hours on the hour via two gongs. The movement is then stamped “W&H Sch” to show that it was made by the famous German maker Winterhalder & Hofmeier.
