Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in France between 1795 and 1799, the Directoire style serves as a transitional movement between the ornate Louis XVI era and the Neoclassical Empire style, characterised by simplified geometric forms, classical Greek motifs, and restrained architectural proportions.

Cabinetmakers favoured native European hardwoods such as fruitwood, walnut, and cherrywood alongside imported mahogany. Upholstery typically featured structured woven fabrics, silk damasks, or velvet fixed with decorative brass studding or braid.

Look for Neoclassical features such as understated scrolled arms, gently turned or sabre legs, carved crest rail mouldings, and traditional pegged joinery combined with historic upholstery techniques.

Position the piece as a focal point in an entryway, bay window, or living area alongside contemporary lighting and plain backdrops to highlight the warm timber tones and structured outline.

Condition the timber frame periodically using a natural beeswax polish applied in the direction of the grain, while vacuuming the velvet upholstery gently using a brush attachment to remove dust.
