Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Claret jugs were designed during the nineteenth century specifically for serving French red wines, known historically in Britain as claret. The metal mount helped prevent drips while pouring and added decorative structure to delicate glass vessels.

Traditional claret jugs combine hand-blown or cut lead crystal glass bodies with metallic collars, spouts, and handles. These metal mounts were typically crafted from sterling silver, electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), or silver-plated brass.

Authentic pieces feature crisp geometric cuts on the glass body and distinct hallmark or maker marks stamped into the silver collar or handle. Hand-engraved motifs such as mascaron spouts, Classical faces, or scroll handles are strong indicators of late nineteenth-century craft.

Display the vessel on a dining room sideboard, tray table, or drinks cabinet to highlight the reflective quality of the glass and metal. It pairs well alongside contemporary barware or curated crystal collections.

Clean the interior glass using lukewarm water and specialized glass-cleaning beads rather than abrasive detergents. Hand-polish the metal collar with a soft microfiber cloth and mild silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh moisture around the glass-to-metal join.
