This blushing young lady is shown seated at a cloth-covered table painting a watercolour landscape. She wears a black velvet dress with lace under-sleeves and a lace collar fastened with peach ribbon. She has accessorized her dress with a brooch and a delicate blue stone bracelet. It is though her wonderful hair style that draws the eye!
*
Although lacking a signature or inscription, this may actually well be a self-portrait. It dates to around 1860.
*
The watercolour is presented in a flat profile bird''s eye maple veneer frame with a gilded slip. The frame has losses to the veneer at the corners and along the edges. The slip is also distressed but the beauty of the portrait more then makes up for the frame.
*
Framed Size: 402 x 317mm (16 x 12.5 in.)
