Description

A fine quality pair of French late 19thc brass candlesticks c1880. This pair have been finely cast to achieve intricate but elegant patterns. On the the base (rosettes), stem base (two bands of cross diagonal lines and beading), stem (lattice with petals inside the squares), and a series of plain bands, punched beading, acanthus leaves and diagonal lines encircle the top of the stem. There is a further band of rosettes around the candleholder. The sconces, which are separate from the base, are edged with a counter band of diagonal lines and beads. All in all a tour de force of design and skill. The different patterns and shapes all help to reflect as much light as possible from the candle. In very good condition. One sconce fits more tightly than the other but they both sit well.
