Artisan Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
Classically decorated in Georgian fashion with the fine engine turning on all sides, this box may appear similar to many counterpart pocket snuff boxes of its period.
It is, however, upon closer inspection of the thumbpiece that this box is ever so slightly irregular and distinguishes itself from counterpart boxes. The thumb-piece which normally serves as an aid in opening the lid has been profusely chased and decorated with floral motifs to a further degree than usual.
The floral chasing extends from one end to another and features a higher relief and depth than the norm. Extending almost halfway down the side of the engine-turned walls and having a significant presence on the front, it is this contrast to the rest of the box that makes for a subtle yet sophisticated elegance.
The interior of the box is also fully gilt which prevents the surface of the silver from tarnishing as quickly.
Whilst this box would make for a nice contrasting piece in a snuff box collection, in the modern day, such boxes could also be used practically to store small items, mints and pills in addition to the traditional snuff (tobacco) that would have been stored within.
A full set of English hallmarks is present on the interior lid and base of the box.

CONDITION
Good Condition - The snuff box is in overall good antique condition, however, there are some fair amounts of wear in specific areas on the base of the engine turning. Further, for accuracy, some very minor pitting is present on the top cartouche of the lid. This has been photographed and highlighted in the last image.
Otherwise, the box remains in very good order with crisp chasing and a tight hinge/closure. We aim to overemphasize and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect the usage of the items.
