Antique Waltham Bartlett half hunter pocket watch, 1931.

The watch has a good quality P S Bartlett grade stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has a 17 jewel movement with beautifully patterned plates, a Church 1892 patent regulator and a Breguet hairspring for enhanced precision. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 27633180 which dates it back to 1931. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.

This particular watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and is the Star model from the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. Dennisons made most of the cases for Waltham UK. The case is in good condition, just minor light marking but nothing serious at all.

The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals there is some enamel loss although not over noticeable.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

The acrylic lens is in good condition with only minor marking from use.

The signed dial has a very faint hairline crack under the sub seconds dial but otherwise it is in nice condition. Blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
