Gillows Shell-back Hall Chair

A fine and crisp Regency Gillows of Lancaster shell-back hall chair, C.1810.
 
This chair is expertly carved from the finest Mahogany, retaining a wonderful and original colour.
 
As referenced in ''Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840'' by Susan E. Stuart page 203, plate 177.
 
With shaped sabre reeded forelegs and apron, stamped ''RC'' to the underside of the seat rail which could correlate to three journeymen of the period.
 
A similar pair also stamped ''RC'' can be found at Abbot Hall, Kendal which are stamped Gillow of Lancaster, structurally sound with historic traces of woodworm to underside seat rails.
