ANTIQUE NUMBER SA1020594: Victorian Gold, Turquoise & Diamond Brooch

Victorian Gold, Turquoise & Diamond Brooch

£2,000    $2,606    €2,380
This sensational Brooch was made in Russia between 1899 and 1908, which is when the hallmark "56" was used to denote "56 zolotnik" which is the equivalent of 14 carat gold. There is a chain holding a single mounted turquoise in a regal looking swag shape, which adds a lovely movement to the whole piece. The setting of the brooch is highly decorated with a zig-zag pattern to the sides.

To the ends of the horseshoe and set between the Persian turquoises are rose cut diamonds which add a subtle twinkle to the whole piece.

To the top of the brooch at the back is an interior threaded hole which may have been where this brooch could have been fitted into a pendant or a tiara. There are various markings scratched into the back of the piece which appear to be Russian script, perhaps made by the jeweller.
