It is inlaid with ebony ,satinwood,rosewood as well as
Flame mahogany .obviously made for a fine country house . Interestingly rare to fine in mahogany ,generally made of oak or pine . This is a real "upstairs"piece
There is a small historic repair by the left hand hinge ,barely noticible .see 1st pic
We hang ours in our inglenook but they look perfect in any period setting
Called candleboxes because they held candles and often were near to a fireplace to get them lit.
