This is a very attractive trinket box made by William Neale, Chester, in 1902. Of cushioned, heart-shape form, it has all-over, rococo revival, repousse decoration, consisting of offset acanthus leaves, scrolls and a reticulated pattern, on a stippled ground. There is a central, blank cartouche on the hinged lid, which also has gadrooned edging. The inside is gilded. There are no personal engravings and there never have been. This piece is in excellent, antique condition, with no damage, repairs or losses. The hinge is robust and the box shuts well. This would make a lovely, personal gift for a special friend.
