Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian wind-out dining tables were developed in the nineteenth century using a telescoping mechanical screw mechanism to insert or remove central leaves. Typically constructed from heavy timbers such as mahogany, these tables feature decorative leg profiles including turned, fluted, or cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet.

These tables were built with solid mahogany or high-grade mahogany veneers over timber frames. The expansion mechanism operates via internal wooden runner slides driven by a cast iron or brass winding mechanism turned by a removable crank handle.

Authentic examples often feature brass or iron winding mechanisms stamped with maker marks or patent numbers, alongside hand-cut dovetail joints on the frieze. Additionally, original leaves display matching grain direction, uniform wear, and consistent wood oxidisation across the sections.

Pairing a dark mahogany table with modern upholstered chairs provides a balanced visual contrast. Positioning the table beneath contemporary pendant lighting or over a textured wool area rug integrates rich wood tones into a contemporary dining space.

Clean the timber surface regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually in the direction of the grain. Avoid exposing the surface to direct heat sources or moisture, and maintain steady humidity levels to prevent timber warping.
