This is a lovely little piece. Made by leading silversmiths John Grinsell and Sons, in Birmingham, and assayed in 1931, it is of oval form, with a beautiful, banded, polished agate lid in tones of amber and orange. The edge of the agate is bevelled. The interior is gilded and the lid has a shaped finger catch. There is a substantial, strong hinge, which works perfectly, and the box closes tightly. With no damage, losses or repairs to either the silver or the agate, this piece is in excellent antique condition. The hallmarks are clear, with a little rubbing to the maker''s mark. This is a collector''s item and would also make a very fine special gift.
