Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, derived from the French term toilette, refers to a tabletop swing mirror designed to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or cabinet. Emerging in the 17th century and reaching peak popularity during the Victorian era, these mirrors served as functional dressing aids used for personal grooming and hair styling.

Victorian toilet mirrors were frequently constructed using figured timber veneers, such as burr walnut or mahogany, laid over solid pine or oak frames. They often incorporate brass friction joints or side knobs to allow smooth tilting, alongside turned upright columns and hand-carved serpentine bases.

Authentic Victorian examples typically feature original glass with light foxing, hand-dovetailed joints in base compartments, and original brass fittings showing natural patination. The timber on the reverse often displays hand-sawn markings and historic wood contraction standard for 19th-century cabinetmaking.

A Victorian toilet mirror creates a distinct focal point when placed atop a contemporary sideboard, hallway console, or marble-topped vanity unit. Pairing warm timber tones with clean architectural lines or modern ceramic accessories establishes a contrast between historic woodworking and contemporary decor.

To preserve burr walnut veneer, maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources that cause drying or lifting. Clean the woodwork using a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, avoiding contact with the mirror glass or brass fittings.
