Webberley Antiques has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The frame superbly carved and a beautifully balanced asymmetrical composition of foliate C and S scrolls, interspersed with berries and flowers and bordered by palm fronds and the principal elements underscored with carved icicles.
In the lower left quadrant a crested dove peers at its own reflection.
The three candle sconces decorated with individually carved oak leaves.
The thick glass plate is hand made, early and may be original having some small areas of natural degredation and light foxing, and the glass with a good soft grey hue colour and lovely deep reflection.
With oak boards to back, in superb original condition with a few early and very small repairs (the crest with later metal supports added verso) minor losses and some light rubbing to reveal the red clay bole beneath.
An important George II period example, exceptionally rare and stunningly beautiful.
