A Georgian Maritime Engraving Print. Trafalgar C.1820.

An early nineteenth century hand coloured aquatint depicting a dramatic scene from The Battle of Trafalgar.
 
Titled ‘Situation of the Temeraire at half past 3pm October 21st 1805’ the engraving illustrates The Fighting Temeraire, the 98-gun heroine of Trafalgar in action against the French ships Fougueux and the Redoutable.
 
Redoutable, her main and mizzen masts down, in the right centre of the picture, while Temeraire is in the centre and Fougueux on her port side, centre left.
 
Engraved by James Bailey after a painting by Thomas Whitcombe (1763 -1824) .
