In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It screws into a mount that could then sit atop a tripod.

It comes in its original fitted mahogany box which has a lovely aged patina. The box is in good order and displays well and still has its original leather carrying strap. It also has a plaque on the top for "Jones, Son & Vernon. Warley". It is believed this company were surveyors and estate agents so presumably owned and used the level.

Below the lid is a paper repair label from J.A.Reynolds & Co dated 1937.
It is in good condition and displays well. The theodolite lenses are undamaged and they focus well with a good range and clarity. There are some small knocks and surface marks and some tarnishing to the brass but nothing detrimental.

Approximate Measurements:
Box Height : 8 1/4" (21 cm)
