In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Inside, the box is fitted with a dark writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with two different glass ink pots and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below and the interiors of these sections are decorated in a pretty grained wood effect. It comes with its original working key, although the lock is a little bit stiff.
It is in very good condition for its age. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks and some wear to the crease of the writing surface but no major damages and it displays beautifully.
