An appealing little late eighteenth century coloured engraving of a scruffy little spaniel walking on top of a wall or balcony. He looks at the viewer with a surprised expression. 1785.
 
Engraved by the Scottish artist Andrew Bell (1726–1809) and published in the Count de Buffon’s “Natural History General and Particular” 1785.
 
Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788) was a French aristocratic and naturalist, his greatest work was his “Natural History...” it described and illustrated everything known about the natural world.
 
A clear and well coloured engraving free from faults and printed on a laid paper.
 
Within a period verre eglomise Hogarth frame.
 
There maybe some reflections in the glass these are not faults.
