Description

This beautiful small flatweave once had a plainweave back, which has since been removed. It would originally have been stuffed with cotton and used as a pillow in the tent for lounging on.

Tightly woven with natural colours and made circa 1900 by Kordi tribes in the Quchan region of Khorassan, this charming bagface is full of stylised creatures - birds, goats or gazelle and camels.

The main border is typically Kordi - a tribe of Kurdish people who were forcibly moved from Kurdistan to Khorassan by Shah Isma'il in the years 1522-23 in order to protect the area from the invading Turkmen and Uzbeks.
