Large mid C19th Japanese porcelain vase and cover decorated in the Imari palette.
Profusely decorated ribbed or reeded tapering ovoid body , with opposing vignette panels or cartouches featuring mythical birds in wooded landscapes surrounded with floral and leaf designs . The central section of the body punctuated with circular ‘mons’ motifs between the panels of decoration.
The domed cover and finial decorated with corresponding designs in hues of colbalt blue and iron-red with gilded highlights.
The body of the vase in excellent original condition, the finial of the cover with an historic repair.
A highly decorative Japanese Imari vase of good scale and presence .
