1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

We are delighted to be able to offer this first time on the open market custom made Art Deco 10-12 seater extending dining table. Dating to the 1930's, this dining table along with several other pieces of furniture we have listed was commissioned made to it's original owners as a wedding gift in the 1930's. Sourced just outside of Paris, France. This fabulous piece closes to a circular form providing a great centre table when not extended for dining. Often these size tables were originally made for board rooms but this gem is totally authentic dining table and a size which is both scarce and sort after. The top is maple and in a wonderful warm honey blonde colour, with a drum pedestal base in walnut and Macassar ebony base. We've had the whole table fully and professionally restored and traditionally hand French polished so comes to you in excellent condition.

Open length 252 cm, base diameter 72cm, table top thickness 11cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco dining tables from the 1930s feature geometric silhouettes, streamlined curves, and a focus on figured timber veneers such as burr walnut, birdseye maple, or rosewood. Designs often incorporate central pedestal supports and integrated extension mechanisms to maintain a balanced profile.

These tables were constructed using solid hardwood frames faced with highly figured decorative wood veneers. Extension mechanisms typically utilised wooden runner systems, supported by central pedestals or secondary fold-down legs for stability.

Authentic period pieces display book-matched wood veneers, solid brass or steel alignment pins, and original wooden extension slides. Construction methods from this era feature hand-cut joinery alongside early machine production marks beneath the tabletop frame.

A large Art Deco table works as a centrepiece when paired with mid-century or contemporary minimalist dining chairs to balance its visual weight. Neutral floor coverings and subtle ambient lighting highlight the figured grain pattern of the veneered surface.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer warping, colour fading, or lacquer splitting.
