Rowland Henry Hill 1873-1952.Landscape and figure painter in oil and watercolour.Born in Halifax and studied at Bradford School of Art and Herkomer School Bushey.Exhibited 21 works at R.A. from 1897,in the provinces and at the Paris Salon.Lived at Hinderwell near Staithes.He was a leading member of the Staithes School of Artists.His work is much collected and an oil painting by him has recently been auctioned for £10000. ‘ A View of Whitby Castle,Yorkshire’, signed watercolour dated 1932; image size 18x25.5cms framed size 41.5 x 48 cms.Housed in a modern giltwood frame with True Vue glass providing protection from UV light rays.Provenance: with TB &R.Jordan, specialists in Staithes School paintings.
