Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A truly superb, antique, solid silver card case. The case is rectangular and in a wonderful envelope form. The splendid, exceptionally crisp engraving, to both the front and the back of the case depicts lovely swirling patterns. On the back is a nicely shaped empty cartouche. The lid is hinged and pulls open easily, to reveal a pale golden gilt interior. The lid closes with a small button that fastens it securely. Clear hallmarks are visible on the inside of the case for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1916 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The maker''s marks for the renowned silversmith Adie & Lovekin Ltd are also clearly visible. Partial marks are also visible on the underneath of the lid.
