Late C19th/ early C20th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood Kang or opium table of smaller scale.

Scroll-ended low hardwood table with carved and pierced fruiting vine lateral friezes and ends, and having a highly figured burr thuya wood panel top .

In excellent condition with a consistent rich colour and patina .

A stylish and practical table of unusual smaller size and proportions .

A Kang table is a traditional low furniture form originating in China, designed specifically to sit atop a heated brick platform known as a Kang or upon a daybed during the Qing Dynasty.

These tables were typically crafted from dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood, zitan, or huanghuali, using precise mortise-and-tenon joinery that required neither nails nor glue.
