Fine Old Sheffield Plated Cheese Toasting Dish

19th century
Description

A fine cheese toasting dish. Bearing no makers mark, but made of Old Sheffield Plate and dating to c1800-1820. With six removable lidded compartments, a removable lid and a hot water reservoir. Tinned to the base. It is very rare to find a complete piece such as this.

The condition is very good overall with no dents or splits, only very slight copper bleed to the handle. Some of the compartments are slightly misshapen but it fits reasonably well. An old solder repair around the reservoir opening.

Weight approx 2.1kg.

Measures approx 25cm x 18.5cm
